Silly Kids, Crocs, Weddings, & Pod-ag-why

What's Bosom?

At BIS, we do Guided Reading and have really seen great improvements in the students.  Some of my 3rd and 4th grade students are already reading on an 8th grade reading level.  During the "Read Aloud" part of reading class, I have been reading Matilda by Roald Dahl to my students.  They love reading time!

Today, we got to the part of the story when Matilda uses her "powers" and tips the glass of water containing a newt all over the headmistress, Ms. Trunchbull.  The story is very specific about where the glass tips: "Ms. Trunchbull's bosom."

Here's the conversation that followed:

"Miss Duke, What's bosom?"
"It's this part," I replied, pointing to my chest.
"Does it rhyme with chest?" a student responded.
"Eeeew!!!" exclaimed another.
Then, the class was filled with laughter.

Inborn and Unborn

In science class, we are studying learned behaviors and instincts, or as the book puts it, "inborn behaviors."

"Behaviors that are not inborn are called what?" - I asked my 3rd and 4th graders
"Unborn." - A student response

My Not-So-White-Crocs

When I was in Paraguay, I bought some white Crocs.  However, after about 1 day, they had already turned orange from the dirt here!  I cleaned them up really good and decided to let my Sharpees get a good work out!  Here's what I ended up with...

Pray for Me in Brazil

My "little red car" (as my granddaddy used to say) needs some repairs.  It has an oil leak and a hole in the muffler.

I will help lead recreation at another camp here in Brasilia from October 14-16.

Me to be a good teacher for my 3rd & 4th graders.

The discipleship group I am leading 2 high school girls at BIS.

Successful song writing that teaches God's word & connects with preteens

Wisdom for what's next (Am I supposed to stay here or move on?)

Thanks for the pretty dress Grandmother!
Brazilian Wedding (Don't get too excited!  It wasn't mine!)

Last Saturday, I went with my Brazilian-American family to their cousin's wedding.  It was beautiful.  All three of the kids and Jessica were in the wedding and I really enjoyed it!  They said their own vows and it was precious!  Some pictures we took at the wedding are at the bottom!

Our Team in Paraguay
Paraguay with Press On Missions

Thank you for all of your prayers while I was in Paraguay!  The camp was amazing!  I stayed with an amazing young family in Asuncion, Paraguay: Ana, Fernando, and Ichi!  I was also able to see my friend Rute, pronounced "Lydia" in English.  Don't ask me how that translates...

Our team was very international and I really enjoyed getting to help lead the recreation!  God really moved in youth that attended the camp and also in the leaders.  Thanks Rick for inviting me to go with you!
