Our Favorite Lunch Guests... That Aren't Human

One of our many lunch guests on Sunday
"Mommy," whined the not-so-hungry-anymore child, "I can't finish my food.  I'm full."

"That's ok, Mia.  You don't have to finish it this time."

We were all sitting around the mosaic stone tables on the patio of the churrasqueiro, pronounced "shoe-haus-kay-doo," and Portuguese for "barbecue patio," of our new house in Lago Sul.

Even though six year old Mia didn't want to finish her lunch, that food was surely not going to go to waste because about 5 minutes later, six monkeys came down from the trees to have their fair share of Mia's lunch.

I love our new house.

The beginnings of our chicken coop.  Look carefully behind
the coop for a huge mound of red dirt.  Please note:  That is
an ant mound.
Work Day

Last Saturday, we had our first work day on the house.  We invited the high school students and some other friends over to help us work on the house.

We cut down bamboo, trimmed trees, began working on the chicken coop, worked on creating a driveway, made a garden, and other odds and ends around the property.
It was pretty productive!  Thanks for everyone that came out and helped.

Trees, Plants, and More Trees
Here is a list of some of the trees that we have on our property:
Guava
Bamboo
Cinnamon
Mango
Colchao de Noiva
Bixa Orellana
Pinha
Like I said, these are just SOME of the trees.  There are many more that we won't know until they produce fruit and others that already have fruit, but we just don't know what it is.
